I am currently a 4 th degree Black belt and Co Owner of the ATA Black Belt Acadamy and Karate for Kids in Rapid City and Spearfish, SD. I have been teaching martial arts since 1987.
I am Certified by the American Taekwondo Association to teach Protech; knife and gun defense, single and double stick, single and double bong mong ee (nanchukus), bo staff, SHARP (Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention). I keep these certifications current by attending classes yearly and by annually in Little Rock, AR and Panama City, FL. I truly enjoy being able to make a difference in peoples lives with what I do. Therefore Martial Arts is my job, and my life and my students are not a “hobby”.
Prior to owning the Taekwondo School I ran a day care business which was city and state licensed. I have always been interested in the needs and lives of children and the day care business allowed me to be a stay at home mom for my 2 children Alinda and Jeramy.
Alinda is now 24 years old and after getting her undergraduate classes at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA. She is now a 3rd year Veterinary student in Ames, IA. Jeramy is 22 years old and after graduating from St. Thomas High school in Rapid City, SD he is now an E3 at Quantico, VA as a Naval Corpsman serving with the Marines.
Rotary and Story Book Island were a main part of my volunteer work. With Rotary I was an active member and past Program Chair for 3 years. I was on the following committees; the Sister City Exchange committee, the 9th Grade Academy committee and, a Story Book Island Board Member. As a Story Book Island Board member I have served as Secretary and on two committees; the Planning committee ant the Sites and Grounds committee.
Other groups I volunteer for are the Jr. Achievement and the Character Counts Coalition. I am also a member of the Rapid City Republican Women in the past as there secretary and now as the 2nd Vice President, Ambassadors, Toastmasters, Working Women, and the United Methodist Church.
In my free time I bowl and am also the secretary for the Halo Hangers Bowling League.
